Chicken Bacon Ranch Smash Tacos

Chicken Bacon Ranch Smash Tacos

These Chicken Bacon Ranch Smash Tacos are crispy, creamy, high-protein, and full of classic chicken bacon ranch flavor. They are made with seasoned ground chicken smashed onto low-carb tortillas, cooked until golden, then topped with crispy bacon, ranch, and your favorite toppings.

If you love chicken bacon ranch flavors, these smash tacos are such a fun twist on taco night.

They combine seasoned ground chicken, crispy bacon, creamy ranch, and a crisp tortilla for an easy meal that comes together quickly. This recipe is simple enough for a weeknight dinner, but fun enough to feel like something different.

The smash taco method is inspired by the viral smash burger taco trend. Instead of cooking the meat separately, you press a thin layer of seasoned ground chicken directly onto the tortilla and cook it chicken-side down until the meat is browned and cooked through. Then you flip it and let the tortilla get lightly crisp.

It is easy, delicious, and a great way to make a high-protein meal feel fun.

  • 8 low-carb tortillas

  • Shredded cheddar cheese

Ingredient Notes

Ground Chicken

Ground chicken keeps these tacos lean, high in protein, and mild enough to take on the ranch flavor well.

If your ground chicken is very wet or sticky, that is normal. Use clean hands or the back of a spoon to spread it thinly over the tortilla.

Ranch Seasoning

You can use a packet of ranch seasoning or about 2 tablespoons of homemade ranch seasoning.

If your ranch seasoning is salty, go easy on the extra salt until after cooking.

Low-Carb Tortillas

Choose a sturdy low-carb tortilla that holds up well in a skillet. You want one that can crisp a little without falling apart.

Bacon

Cooked, chopped bacon adds the classic chicken bacon ranch flavor. You can cook the bacon ahead of time to make dinner even faster.

Ranch Dressing

Use your favorite ranch dressing for drizzling. If you are following Trim Healthy Mama, choose an on-plan ranch that fits your goals.

How to Make Chicken Bacon Ranch Smash Tacos

Step 1: Season the Chicken

Add the ground chicken to a bowl.

Mix in the ranch seasoning, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.

Step 2: Smash the Chicken onto the Tortillas

Place a low-carb tortilla on a cutting board or clean work surface.

Press a thin, even layer of seasoned ground chicken onto one side of the tortilla.

The chicken should be spread fairly thin so it cooks through quickly and browns nicely.

Step 3: Cook the Smash Tacos

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium to medium-high heat.

Place the tortilla chicken-side down in the hot skillet.

Cook for about 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how thick the chicken layer is, until the chicken is browned and cooked through.

The chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

Step 4: Flip and Crisp the Tortilla

Flip the taco and cook the tortilla side until lightly crisp.

If adding shredded cheese, sprinkle it on after flipping so it can melt while the tortilla crisps.

Step 5: Add Toppings

Top with cooked bacon pieces and drizzle with ranch dressing.

Add lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, green onions, buffalo sauce, or any other toppings you love.

Serve warm.

Tips for the Best Smash Tacos

Spread the chicken thin

This is the most important tip. A thin layer of chicken cooks faster, browns better, and makes the taco easier to flip.

Do not overload the tortilla

Too much chicken can make the taco heavy and harder to cook through.

Use a hot skillet

A hot skillet helps the chicken brown instead of steam.

Check for doneness

Ground chicken should be cooked to 165°F.

Crisp the tortilla after flipping

Letting the tortilla cook for a minute or two after flipping gives you the best texture.

Prep the bacon ahead

Cook and chop the bacon ahead of time to make this meal even faster on a busy night. Or use precooked bacon!

Are Chicken Bacon Ranch Smash Tacos THM-Friendly?

These tacos can fit well in a Trim Healthy Mama S setting when made with on-plan low-carb tortillas, an appropriate ranch seasoning, on-plan ranch dressing, and S-friendly toppings.

To keep them THM-friendly:

  • Use low-carb tortillas that work for your plan
  • Choose an on-plan ranch dressing
  • Use an on-plan ranch seasoning
  • Pair with non-starchy vegetables or another S-friendly side
  • Avoid adding E fuel sides if you want to keep the meal in S mode

As always, your final fuel setting will depend on the exact brands and ingredients you choose.

Storage and Meal Prep

These tacos are best served fresh because the tortilla has the best texture right after cooking.

If you have leftovers, store cooked tacos in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheat in a skillet or air fryer to help bring back some of the crispy texture.

You can also prepare the seasoned chicken mixture and cooked bacon ahead of time. Store them separately in the refrigerator, then assemble and cook the tacos when ready to eat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use ground turkey instead of ground chicken?

Yes. Ground turkey works well in this recipe and can be swapped evenly for the ground chicken.

Can I use cooked shredded chicken instead?

For this smash taco method, raw ground chicken works best because it presses onto the tortilla and cooks directly in the skillet. Cooked shredded chicken will not stick to the tortilla the same way. But you could just make tacos with the cooked shredded chicken. Add ranch seasoning to the chicken. Heat in a skillet and top with cheese, bacon, a little ranch drizzle, and any other toppings.

What low-carb tortillas work best?

Any sturdy low-carb tortilla that holds up well in a skillet should work. Choose your favorite brand based on taste, texture, and your personal goals. I prefer Mission fajita size.

Can I make these dairy-free?

You can use a dairy-free ranch dressing and skip the cheese. Be sure to check your ranch seasoning as well, since some blends contain dairy.

Can I freeze smash tacos?

For the best texture, I do not recommend freezing fully assembled smash tacos. The tortillas are best cooked fresh. You can freeze the seasoned ground chicken mixture separately if needed, then thaw and cook fresh.

How do I know when the chicken is done?

The chicken should be browned and cooked through, with no pink remaining. For best food safety, use a meat thermometer and make sure the ground chicken reaches 165°F.

Nutrition Note

Nutrition will vary depending on the brand of tortillas, bacon, ranch seasoning, ranch dressing, and optional toppings used.

They are crispy, creamy, savory, and simple enough for a busy weeknight. If you need a high-protein dinner that still feels fun and family-friendly, this is a great recipe to add to your rotation.
