Is Trim Healthy Mama, Keto?
There is some confusion out there about whether or not trim healthy mama is keto. I am going to go through some of the similarities and differences in this post. Believe it or not, they do have some things in common.
Things trim healthy mama and keto have in common:
Neither one allows sugar or sugar replacements that can spike your blood sugar
No white flour- no regular or whole wheat type bread
No white rice
No juices
Sweet alcohol- Sweet liquors, sweet wine, cider, etc
Differences:
With THM you CAN have
Brown and Wild Rice
Sweet Potatoes
Oatmeal
Berries and fruits
Non and low fat dairy
Sourdough and sprouted breads
The list above is not an exhaustive list of what you can have on trim healthy mama compared to what you cannot have on keto. There is a lot more on the things you CAN have on trim healthy mama than you can have on a keto diet. THM gives you food freedom. You aren’t counting calories, you eat until you are satisfied. There are no points to count and add up. The thm way of eating is so satisfying and freeing. I can pretty much find something on plan anywhere we go.
Keto is all about high fat, moderate protein, and very low carb. Many people who follow keto limit their carbs to 20 for a whole day. I often have oatmeal with berries for breakfast. Yesterday I have a piece of sprouted toast with sugar free jam and 1 1/2 cups of papaya. Those carbs in my breakfast are way too many for a keto diet. Yet they are nourishing to my body.
You can be as pure as you want or be someone who uses a microwave and goes through a drive-thru. Trim healthy mama is a way of eating that has changed my life. Here is a link to my page on whether trim healthy mama works. There are ladies that follow this eating plan and would never consider using store-bought milk, cream cheese, or own a microwave. On the other end of the spectrum are the ladies who use store-bought low carb tortillas, laughing cow cheese, and swerve sweetener. Most mommas are somewhere in between.
Below is a before and after picture. The first picture is about 8 years ago, right before I started the thm plan.
