Potsticker Smash Tacos- Easy Dinner
Potsticker Smash Tacos
These Potsticker Smash Tacos combine the savory filling of a potsticker with the easy, skillet-cooked method of a smash taco. A seasoned mixture of ground beef and ground pork is pressed directly onto tortillas and cooked until the meat is browned and the tortilla is toasted.
Once cooked, the tacos are topped with shredded cabbage, carrots, cilantro, thinly sliced onion, sesame seeds, and a drizzle of Sriracha. Every bite has a delicious combination of savory meat, fresh vegetables, gentle heat, and Asian-inspired flavor.
They are simple enough for a weeknight meal, but they are also a fun change from traditional tacos.
Why You’ll Love These Potsticker Smash Tacos
The beef-and-pork mixture is flavored with fresh ginger, garlic, green onions, and Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, giving it the savory flavor you expect from a potsticker filling.
Unlike traditional potstickers, there is no folding, sealing, or steaming required. The meat mixture is spread directly onto the tortillas and cooked in a skillet. This gives you plenty of flavorful browned meat while keeping the recipe quick and approachable.
The fresh toppings add color, crunch, and balance without requiring a complicated slaw or dressing.
Ingredients
For the potsticker-inspired meat mixture
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon Bragg’s Liquid Aminos
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 small low-carb tortillas
For topping
- Finely shredded green or purple cabbage
- Shredded carrots
- Chopped fresh cilantro
- Thinly sliced onion
- Sesame seeds
- Sriracha
How to Make Potsticker Smash Tacos
1. Prepare the meat mixture
Add the ground beef, ground pork, chopped green onions, grated ginger, minced garlic, Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, salt, and pepper to a medium bowl.
Use clean hands or a fork to gently mix everything together. Avoid overmixing, which can make the cooked meat dense.
2. Add the meat to the tortillas
Divide the meat mixture evenly among the tortillas.
Spread a thin layer of meat over one side of each tortilla, pressing it all the way to the edges. Keeping the layer relatively thin will help the meat cook quickly and evenly.
3. Cook the tacos
Heat a large skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Lightly grease the skillet if needed.
Place one or more tortillas in the skillet with the meat side facing down. Use a spatula to press the tortillas firmly against the skillet.
Cook for approximately 3 to 5 minutes, or until the meat is fully cooked and nicely browned.
Flip each tortilla and cook the plain tortilla side for another 1 to 2 minutes, just until it is warm and lightly toasted.
Ground beef and pork should reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
4. Add the toppings
Transfer the cooked tacos to a plate.
Top each one with shredded cabbage, carrots, cilantro, sliced onion, sesame seeds, and Sriracha. Fold and serve while warm.
Optional Potsticker Dipping Sauce
These tacos have plenty of flavor on their own, but you can also serve them with a simple dipping sauce.
Mix together:
- 2 tablespoons Bragg’s Liquid Aminos
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- A small amount of grated ginger
- A pinch of your preferred sweetener
- Red pepper flakes, optional
Because liquid aminos can be salty, taste the sauce before adding any additional salt.
Tips for the Best Smash Tacos
Spread the meat thinly. A thin, even layer cooks more quickly and stays attached to the tortilla.
Cook the meat side first. Placing the meat directly against the hot skillet creates better browning and helps the filling adhere to the tortilla.
Do not overcrowd the skillet. Cook the tacos in batches so you have enough room to flip them easily.
Prepare the toppings first. These tacos cook quickly, so it helps to have the vegetables chopped before you begin cooking.
Adjust the Sriracha to taste. Use a light drizzle for gentle heat or add extra for a spicier taco.
Are These Potsticker Smash Tacos THM-Friendly?
These can make a delicious THM S meal when prepared with an on-plan low-carb tortilla and served with non-starchy vegetables.
Because ground pork and ground beef can vary in fat content, choose the meat combination that works best for your meal and goals. For a slightly lighter version, use lean ground beef along with the ground pork.
The green beans pictured alongside the tacos are a great vegetable side. They can be sautéed with Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, garlic, ginger, or a small amount of sesame oil to complement the flavors in the tacos.
What to Serve with Potsticker Smash Tacos
Serve these tacos with:
- Asian-style green beans
- Sautéed cabbage
- Roasted broccoli
- Cucumber salad
- Cauliflower fried rice
- A simple Asian-inspired slaw
Storage and Reheating
Store leftover cooked tacos in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. For the best texture, store the vegetable toppings separately.
Reheat the tacos in a skillet over medium-low heat until warmed through. This helps the tortillas regain some of their toasted texture. Add the cold toppings and Sriracha after reheating.
