This is one of those meals that was born out of desperation! I had some mushrooms that were getting to the point where they had to be used. I found a package of tenderized round steak in the bottom of my freezer. And this recipe was born. Sometimes recipes are planned and a lot of thought is put into them, and sometimes, this is the method.

This was a hit with everyone, and hubby went back for seconds. This is one of those recipes that is the meat and potatoes but it is low carb, and it should satisfy those cravings. The recipe comes together so fast, it is perfect for any time that you need to get dinner on the table fast.
Montreal seasoning, the main seasoning I used.
I bought some Montreal steak seasoning months ago from Aldi and completely forgot about. When I was looking through my seasoning cabinet, I saw the bottle. This seasoning really helped flavor this dish. If you don’t have a bottle, you could try adding in what you have. The bottle says it is course salt, black and rep pepper, garlic and onion. If you have anyone in your family that likes “meat and potatoes” give this easy recipe a try.
Montreal Steak and Mushrooms
Ingredients
- 1.2 Lb Tenderized Round Steak, cut into bite sized pieces You can easily go up to 2 lb of the meat, just add a little more seasoning and heavy cream
- 1 T Butter
- 1 M-L Onion, diced
- 8 oz Bella Mushrooms, Sliced
- 1/2 C Beef Broth
- 1/4 t Salt
- 1/4 t Black Pepper
- 1/4 t Garlic Powder
- 1/4 C Beef Broth
- 1/3 C Heavy Cream
- 1 t Montreal Seasoning
- 1 t Worcestershire Sauce
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add diced mushrooms.
- Cook for a few minutes. Add mushrooms.
- When the skillet gets dry, add the 1/2 cup of beef broth. Cook until mushrooms are almost cooked.
- Remove from skillet to a plate. Add meat to the skillet. Season with the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Spread meat out into an even layer and brown. When one side has browned, flip and brown the other size. This happens very fast.
- Remove the meat to the plate with the onion and mushrooms.
- Leave any liquid in the skillet. Add the remaining beef broth and Montreal steak seasoning.
- When hot, add the heavy cream.
- Stir, allow to cook for a minute or two.
- Add the meat, mushrooms, and onions back to the skillet. Stir, coat everything, and heat through. Serve on top of mashed cauliflower.
