Cheesy Sausage and Cabbage Skillet

Creamy, cheesy, sausage and cabbage skillet, it is low carb and trim healthy mama s, and budget friendly.

My store that I get my meat at has had Hillshire farms 13.5 oz packages of sausage on sale, buy one get one for a penny. When I add the meat to dishes, I can use one package for 5 adults. I have been trying to find new ways to make it. My family has liked everything so far. I was a little worried about this one, but they said it was great.

This isn’t the prettiest recipe, but the flavor is really good.

When you can get tasty and budget friendly in a recipe, that’s a huge win. Since eating this way, my budget did increase. Having a set of recipes that my kids and hubby like and help me stay on budget is important. If you are looking for healthy and budget friendly on plan meals, there are lots of them here. When I started thm, there were 7 people at home.

To save time I used a bag of coleslaw mix.

If you want to save as much money as possible, check the price between whole cabbage and coleslaw mix. I like to use the mix to save me time. I also used fire roasted tomatoes but you can use regular. I just wanted to up the flavor profile. If you are pinching pennies, that is quite as important as feeding your family healthy meals. Top your bowls with a sprinkling of shredded cheese and dried parsley. This is a wonderful recipe when you are busy and don’t know what to make with a few basic ingredients. It will be a winner for dinner!

Creamy Sausage and Cabbage Skillet

Ingredients

  • 13.5 oz Sausage, sliced
  • 1 M Bell Pepper, diced
  • 1 M Onion, diced
  • 1 T Minced Garlic
  • 1 1/2 C Shredded Cheese, I used cheddar
  • 4 C Sliced Cabbage or a Bag or two of coleslaw mix
  • 14.5 oz Fire Roasted Tomataoes
  • 4 oz Reduced Fat Cream Cheese
  • 1-2 T Olive Oil
  • 1 t Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat add olive oil. Sauté onion and bell pepper. When they are close to as done as you want them, add the minced garlic.
  • Add the sausage and cook for a few minutes.
  • Add the cabbage/coleslaw to the skillet. If you have too much and it overflows, it will cook down. Add it in stages if you need to.
  • After it cooks for about 5 minutes, add the canned tomatoes.
  • Stir and cook until it is done as well as you like it. Add the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and the Worcestershire sauce. Taste it and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Stir until melted, combined, and creamy.
  • Serve hot.
