Instant Pot Beer Brats

Brats can be hard to cook just right

When we lived in Wisconsin we used to have brat fries all the time. We would have fundraisers with brats and hot dogs almost every week. We learned how to grill them perfectly. Brats aren’t quite as popular here in Texas. I also don’t see any brat fries on street corners either. They are so good grilled, you just need a little patience. Enter the Instant Pot, a way to cook brats super fast, perfectly, and can be cooked year round. I made these last month as well but never posted the recipe. I wanted to make them again, so we had them last night. My hubby went back for seconds after saying he wasn’t that hungry. Ha! That’s a winner winner brat dinner!

We had them with sautéed red cabbage both times.

We ate these with red cabbage both times I made this. Red cabbage is so good for you! I am also doing a challenge in one of my groups to eat red or purple foods 4 times this week. I really like the flavor of the braised red cabbage with the brats. Both times I have made this, if we had leftovers, they were gone the next day. While you brats are cooking, make your cabbage. They will be done around the same time.

We keep this meal really simple.

When I make this, we just have the brats and the braised red cabbage. It is super filling. If your family needs more food served with this, maybe sautéed squash, Brussels sprouts, salad, green beans or for a xoer, air fried potatoes. My teens like mashed potatoes on the side. I almost always make them instant mashed potatoes. 🙂 I topped mine with horseradish mustard. If you even remotely like horseradish, get a bottle of this! It is so good. My kids have been using it on sandwiches, hot dogs, and other things. I bought mine a Walmart. I highly suggest you buy more than one if your family likes horseradish.

Your liquid that you use is entirely up to you.

You can use whatever liquid you want to use in your instant pot. If you want to keep this lov carb, trim healthy mama s and use beer, Michelob Ultra would be my suggestion. You can use broth or water if you want. I used butter to brown the brats but you can use your fat of choice. Put this on your menu for next week, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
