Fried Sausage and Cabbage Skillet, Low Carb THM S

This is a perfect recipe that not only tastes great but also is budget friendly. Cabbage is pretty much always a great budget option, add some sausage, seasonings, and you have a hit family friendly dinner. Sometimes we have a tight week and the money is almost gone before we get to get groceries and we need tried and true recipes for those times. This recipe is filling and perfect year round.

If you need a low carb, trim healthy mama S, or even a keto recipe, this one fits all of them. You need basic ingredients and right now, that seems to be all we have. One tip I would add would be to cute the sausage in half horizontally, slice those in a piece and then a piece again. I didn’t do that and the meat seemed to not be scattered through as much. I used a fairly large head of cabbage to feed us but only one package of sausage. Top with cheese or hot sauce, or whatever sounds good to you.

Fried Sausage and Cabbage

Servings 5

Equipment

  • Large Frying Pan

Ingredients

  • 12-16 oz Package of low carb Sausage I used andouille sausage
  • 1 Head Cabbage
  • 1 Large Onion Leave out if doing Keto
  • 2 T Olive Oil
  • 2 t Minced Garlic
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Optional, hot sauce, cheese

Instructions

  • Heat up your large skillet over medium heat.
  • Cut up your sausage and add to skillet. If needed, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  • While the sausage is cooking, cut up your onions and your cabbage. When sausage is cooked, remove from skillet and add onions.
  • After onions have cooked for a few minutes, add minced garlic and olive oil. After those have cooked for a few minutes, add the cabbage. Stir and cook for a few minutes. If all of your cabbage won't fit into your skillet at one time, add it in stages as you need to. Cabbage cooks down, so you should eventually have enough.
  • As your cabbage cooks down, you might need to add water, or more oil so it won't burn. If you have a lid that will fit your skillet, place your lid on top. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until the cabbage is cooked to your likeness.
  • When your cabbage is cooked, add your sausage to the skillet, stir and heat through. Add your salt and pepper to taste.
  • Scoop into bowls and serve hot.
